Situation Description:

In identifying this year’s topic for the S.E.E.K. program, we have done extensive research relative to Cervical Cancer. This issue is extremely important to our organization. Some of our board members include cancer survivors and have family members who have tackled the disease. This is the only female cancer that can be prevented with the new vaccine Gardasil®. We want to educate as many girls, teenagers, young women and mother’s about what is available.

We have already worked directly with Cedar Crest College and Lehigh University Hospital and the gynecological oncology society to provide an educational seminar to the local community. Knowledgeable speakers, educational materials, a vendor fair and cervical cancer survivors will be included in all future seminars. We will also work directly with the communities and local hospitals pediatricians and physicians serving our targeted communities.

Work Plan:

Our goal is to take our proven format across the United States to expose as many girls, teenagers, young women and mothers about the prevention of cervical cancer and how to receive the Gardasil® vaccine. We will be targeting women and girls between the ages of 9-26 in major metro and suburban areas, local health advocates and the medical community.

Program Components:

A one - two hour seminar comprised of 4 guest speakers. Topics to include:

Cervical Cancer Overview

Statistics

Prevention

The Gardasil® vaccine

Resources

Survivor Stories

Participant Questions

A 30 minute vendor fair with participants from:

The Theresa Kathryn Foundation

The Gynecological Cancer Foundation

The American Cancer Society

University Student Organizations

Merck Resource Booth

The program will begin with participants having the ability to walk through a vendor fair with the highlighted sponsors in effort to receive information regarding cervical cancer, treatment options, support and advocacy groups and information regarding the Gardasil® vaccine. This will be followed up with a 1 ½ hour presentation broken out in four components and conveyed by 4 different guest speakers. Each guest speaker will focus on a specific topic to include an overview of HPV, Cervical Cancer and statistics, Prevention of HPV and a true life experience or survivor story.

The Theresa Kathryn Foundation has successfully executed and participated in a seminar at Cedar Crest College in conjunction with Lehigh Valley Hospital. The program was attended by more than 250 individuals. A vendor fair and presentation material featuring information on cervical cancer prevention was held and participants were actively engaged. Information on receiving the Gardasil® vaccine was widely distributed.
The Theresa Kathryn Foundation is working with Rutgers University to schedule a subsequent S.E.E.K. program in the fall of 2007. We will be using the same proven format used at Cedar Crest College. Participation is currently projected at more than 500 students and individuals from the surrounding communities. We will be working with local student organizations and media outlets in the surrounding communities.

Spokesperson and Founder Tammy Trenta will use her notoriety from “The Apprentice” to generate interest and serve as a positive role model for young women and will be speaking along with Fellow Board Member Dr. Martin Martino, a Gynecological Oncologist. We will also be working with gynecological oncologists in each key area, cervical cancer survivors and mothers of daughter’s with cervical cancer.

Our Projected Outcome:

The goal is to prevent the spread of cervical cancer and raise awareness and educate our young adults on the importance of taking care of their health. By hosting the S.E.E.K. awareness seminars in major cities and communities, we will foster education regarding the prevention of the HPV virus. Another projected outcome is to promote to the medical community and patient caregivers the availability of the vaccine. This will help to impact a higher rate of the administration of the vaccine.
